Research Gaps

Important questions that need addressing in maternal perinatal trials
We have used Cochrane reviews to identify gaps in maternal perinatal research and grouped these into 'umbrella' topics.
To make the issues easier to understand, we have summarised and coded review findings and the research implications. For detailed information see Individual Research Gaps and Summary & Review Codes.

Are the summaries useful?

How have we identified the gaps?
We have started with Cochrane reviews because they are likely to contain the best available evidence about maternal perinatal interventions (although we also recognise that Cochrane reviews may not always include the most recent randomised controlled trials or the review's research implications may not have addressed all the relevant issues).

There are many other sources that can provide information about which questions are important to answer in maternal perinatal research and we will survey other sources in the next phases of the WOMBAT research gaps project. A gap in the research might bot always involve mounting an RCT - there may be gaps in the research relating to qualitative, implementation, or methodological questions.

Summary & Review Codes
To make the issues easier to understand, we have summarised and coded review findings in one line with the research implications underneath.

Are the summaries useful?
We hope you find these research gap umbrellas useful – if you would like to discuss anything relating to these gaps (such as how to develop an idea for a trial in the area), please contact the WOMBAT national coordinator.
