Funding opportunities


Is intended to provide support to ACT health and medical researchers to boost research activities in the sector.

The program will provide small grants in three categories:

1) Large project development grants to established researchers for the development of national and international collaborative projects. Up to $50,000

2) Support for the ACT research fraternity to host national and international research meetings in Canberra, and to edit academic journals.

3) Short-term fellowships for qualified health workers and scientists working in the ACT to pursue their research interests in an academic capacity.





The Bonnie Babes Foundation Inc. was established to provide grief counselling for families who have experienced the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or prematurity and to assist with vital medical research into the reasons more than 50,000 babies die in Australia each year.

The Bonnie Babes Foundation will not fund conference travel or building funds. Grant applications will be accepted from Australian bodies only. Grant applications are usually provided in the range of $2,000 to $20,000. Applications in excess of this amount may be considered, as may partial funding of projects.

Commonwealth Health Minister's Award for Excellence in Health & Medical Research
The Award is open to researchers who have completed their first PhD or MD within the last fifteen years. The annual Award, made in recognition of outstanding individual achievement in health and medical research in Australia , consists of $50,000 and a presentation medal. Nominations are to come from the Head of Department, School, Division, Institute or equivalent level.



Establishment Grants for Viertel Clinical Investigators
Awards are made in order to stimulate and encourage clinical research in Australia. In particular the grants are intended to assist new investigators to establish their research programs at the time of the difficult transition from doctoral and post-doctoral training posts to their first definitive career positions in an academic environment. Viertel Clinical Investigators will be awarded a once only grant of $55,000.



The Foundation for Children is a company whose purpose is the promotion of the health and welfare of children of Australia.

As the full application requires detailed information that would be reasonably time consuming to collate and prepare, the Foundation introduced an Expressions of Interest (EoI) process whereby the participants can submit a two page summary.

THE GENERAL SIR JOHN MONASH AWARDS
Annually, up to eight Awards may be awarded to outstanding Australian citizens graduating from Australian Universities - as well as those who have already graduated - to enable them to undertake postgraduate study abroad at the world's best Universities, appropriate to their field of study.

Awards include up to AUD $150,000 over 3 years and may be held concurrently with other scholarships or awards, at the discretion of the Foundation.

The General Sir John Monash Awards are not limited by age, gender, and academic field of study, country or university, subject to the university being considered to be amongst the global leaders in the chosen field of study. However, whilst no upper age limit is stipulated, Awards will generally favour those whose major contribution to their field and to the community lies ahead of them.

Fields of Study:
A study programme in any field listed in the relevant university’s academic offerings leading to the degree of
  • PhD or DPhil;
  • In exceptional circumstances, a professional Masters Degree (such as a Masters in Business Administration, Clinical Psychology, Public Policy, Health Administration or Law)
Benefits:
- Up to AUD $150,000 over 3 years;
- The General Sir John Monash Awards may be held concurrently with other scholarships or awards, at the discretion of the Foundation;
- The annual Award sum of $50,000 is normally paid in two equal payments, in advance and after six months.

Qualifications & Eligibility:
In awarding scholarships, important factors considered include:
- Academic excellence – having completed or are about to complete by the end of the year of application, a university degree or degrees with outstanding results, such as an honours degree (with a classification of 1 or 2A) or equivalent.;
- Demonstrated outstanding leadership ability;
- Altruism demonstrated through community service;
- Proof of arrangements with a foreign University to conduct a well-defined research project or study programme;
- The case presented by the Applicant of how the proposed study or research will advance their field of study and benefit them and the country;
- Well-developed communication skills
- Referee Reports outlining the Applicant’s abilities.
- The Applicant’s presentation at interview.

Universities:
- The General Sir John Monash Awards are not restricted to selected universities. They are available for postgraduates to attend universities that are considered to be amongst the global leaders in the field of study;
- Applicants should identify in their applications universities (up to three universities) to which they have sought acceptance (even if subject to obtaining the Award) and state the order of their preference.

The Macquarie Bank Foundation focuses on core areas of education, health care and research, welfare, the environment and the arts. Within these areas, the foundation looks for opportunities that are innovative, genuinely responsive to the community’s needs and that also enable the foundation to contribute with time and expertise as well as financial support.

The sponsor offers two scholarships each year for full-time post-graduate research in one of the allied health sciences. The award is for $25,000 per annum for up to two years at an Australian tertiary institution with appropriate facilities for postgraduate research in the nominated discipline.

National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
Sponsor: NSW Ministry for Science & Medical Research

Provides infrastructure funding to NSW institutes engaged in health & medical research. Eligibility criteria for funding:

1. Health and medical research is primary purpose of organization

2. Location in NSW

3. Affiliation with an Area Health Service and/or public hospital in NSW

4. Interaction with a University

5. Membership of a designated NSW medical research hub

6. Independent governance structure

7. Track record of funding from competitive, peer-reviewed mechanisms


The NSW Department of Health will provide scholarships of up to $10,000 to registered nurses or midwives employed in the NSW public health system who undertake postgraduate study in a nursing course at a NSW or approved university.


Perpetual Trustees manage a large number of Charitable Trusts and Foundations which provide modest funding for a wide range of charitable purposes including: research, education, health, social and community benefit, arts and culture, and the environment.

To be eligible for consideration from all charitable trusts, your organisation must have Income Tax Charity (ITEC) endorsement from the Australian Taxation Office. Eligibility for funding from some charitable trusts is also dependent on your organisation having Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) endorsement from the Australian Taxation Office.

The Fellowship is awarded for a period of no more than five years.
